We have decided as a class that we will become experts in two cultures: Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome.

Ancient Rome expert:

ECONOMY - the way in which natural resources and workers are used to produce goods and services.

Select at least one cultural characteristic to learn more about.  Answer the guiding questions for each cultural characteristic using reference materials such as encyclopedias, reference books, the internet, non-fiction books and/or articles, etc.  Do not lose sight of the overall essential question of this research project:

1.     What were the main resources of this civilization?  (Think about the environment and the geographical location of this civilization.)

2.     What are at least three ways people in this civilization made a living based on the resources available to them?

3.     What was the Forum?  Where was it located?  What was it used for?

4.     Write a question about the economy of this civilization that you are interested in learning more about.  Be sure to answer the question completely.

5.     How does the economy of this civilization influence us today?

6.     Create a graphic such as a graph, map, chart, illustration, etc. that explains something about the economy of ancient Rome.

5.     What were at least two positive and two negative ways this system of government influenced the lives of the people in this civilization?

3.     Where did the Roman alphabet originate?  How has the Roman alphabet influenced our lives today?

4.     Describe in detail one form of recreation this civilization is noted for.  (Ideas:  Circus Maximus, Roman Baths, Amphitheaters such as the Colosseum, etc.)

5.     Write a question about the culture of this civilization that you are interested in learning more about.  Be sure to answer the question completely.
